Sand Dollar Shelling takes small groups from San Marco Marina in Goodland, just south of Marco Island, into the Ten Thousand Islands to secluded beaches you can only reach by boat. The shells wash in by the handful, prized finds like the Junonia turn up, and dolphins often ride along on the way.
Each 3-hour trip gives about two hours on the sand. The 8am departure suits serious shellers, with cooler air and usually the lowest tide; the 11:30am trip is best for kids, with warmer water for wading; and the 3pm trip brings golden-hour beach time and a sunset ride home. Shell buckets, mesh bags, a cooler with ice and life jackets in every size, infants included, are on board; bring your own snacks.
